How many flags it takes to complete one United Kingdom flag?

The history of the UK flag started from the moment of declaration of union between England and Scotland in 1603. The complete flag was created by placing English flag of Saint George (red cross with white background) on Scottish flag of Saint Andrew (white diagonal cross on blue background). In 1801 when Ireland joined the Kingdom, on top of existing flag was placed another flag of Saint Patrick (diagonal cross on white background).
